Andy Roddick expressed some concern for Novak Djokovic after his 2025 Australian Open draw.
The 37-year-old is gearing up for the chance to lift his 11th title at Melbourne Park and extend his own record for the most titles won at the Grand Slam.
Djokovic is also going in search of a 25th major, a mark no player has reached in professional tennis.
But the former World number one, who is seeded seventh at the Australian Open, is to make more history, as Djokovic have to overcome some tricky opponent Down Under.
Novak Djokovic is used to being the top seed for the vast majority of the tournaments he plays.
But things are different at the 2025 Australian Open, as Djokovic can face a top four seed in the quarter-finals, and that could be Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic will start his campaign against Nishesh Basavareddy, and he will face Pavel Kotov or a qualifier in round two.
The likes of Tomas Machac or Reilly Opelka potentially up next in round three, and potentially Grigor Dimitrov or Jiri Lehecka in round four. Djokovic cannot face Sinner until the final.
This draw is a difficult one for Djokovic and Andy Roddick is concerned but he is not counting out the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
“This is a really tough section for Novak. Uncomfortable match ups, this is tough,” he said on his ‘Served podcast’. “If you look at this section, all the variables, all of these guys not having gone super far in a slam before with the exception of Grigor.
“I don’t disagree with anything you are saying about the match ups and the potential but if I look at the section and who is most likely to get through it until the quarter-finals.
“My answer is still Novak. Individual match ups I am scared. It’s a brutal draw. But if I look at the four or five players we think have the potential to get through that section, if you run a simulation, I still think Novak gets through the most amount of times.”
Certain players react differently to a tournament draw with some preferring to look at it and others do not.
For example in May 2024 Rennae Stubbs recalled the time she told Serena Williams who she would play at Wimbledon, and the former World number one was not happy.
But during Djokovic’s exhibition set with Alexander Zverev before the Australian Open, Djokovic shared what he likes to do with the draw once it has been revealed.
“Yes, I do look at who I play against in the first round, and have a little sneak peak at the section,” he said. “I hope I can play a good tournament.”
