AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Business experts in Amarillo are sharing the positive impact holiday shopping season has on small businesses in the area.
Holiday shopping season takes place during November and December, which contributes to a large portion of the annual revenue for small businesses.
“According to the National Retail Federation, consumers will spend close to a trillion dollars this holiday season. That’s up 3% to 4% from last year,” said Matt Ramsey, Amarillo National Bank senior investment officer.
Local businesses are vital to the areas they serve because they allow for money to stay local and be recycled back into the community.
“I just think it’s important to have small business people in your community that you support. I mean, when you shop at a small business, you are supporting someone that you know, and you’re not just supporting some big commercial business,” said Shannon Moffitt, Makie Black owner.
According to Ramsey, the fourth quarter on average accounts for a large portion of where businesses see a profit.
This allows them to catch up from the rest of the year where numbers are decreased.
“When we talk about small business retail and the holiday seasons, people go out and shop, and often times they stop and dine or enjoy drinks afterwards or what not,” said Ramsey.
Ramsey says the holiday season doesn’t only impact small retail stores but small businesses across the board.
