Sinner came out on top as he saw off Zverev in straight sets, winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
The Italian’s victory saw him clinch a second consecutive Australian Open title as well as a third overall Grand Slam.
As for Zverev, he has now lost three finals without tasting victory at a major so far in his career.
Despite the disappointment of the loss, the German was all smiles as he sat next to Sinner on their flight home from Australia.
In a selfie shared to Zverev’s Instagram story, both players smiled on board their plane on Monday.
Alongside the picture, the world no.2 tagged his opponent and wrote: “Well at least I’m ahead of him this time,” in reference to his seat being ever so slightly closer to the cockpit than Sinner’s.
He also added a pair of crying laughing emojis as he shared their awkward reunion with his fans.
Zverev had already congratulated Sinner on his win in a separate post on the platform.
Reflecting on the final, the 27-year-old said: “The journey continues… Congrats to @janniksin on another @australianopen title.
“And thank you all for your amazing support throughout these last two weeks!”

Sinner’s win also keeps Zverev off the top spot in the ATP world rankings.
The pair remain first and second in the world following their meeting in the final.
Meanwhile, Sinner has extended his streak as world no.1 to 29 weeks.
He last found himself off the top spot in May last year, having since won six titles on tour including two Grand Slams.
