Carbon Hill’s Class 3A football game at Oakman scheduled for tonight has been postponed after weapons were found in a student’s car, according to a Facebook post from Carbon Hill High School.
The Facebook post says the game will now be played Sept. 27. That was originally a scheduled off-date for both teams.
“Over the last few days our school communities of Carbon Hill and Oakman have experienced a lot of stress and tension,” the Facebook post read. “It is in the best interest of our students to postpone tonight’s football game until Sept. 27.”
The post, shared on sites for both schools, said “safety will always be our first priority.” No students were threatened or in any danger, the post read.
It’s the third time in a week that an Alabama high school football game was altered due to social media threats or, in this case, “stress and tension.”
The Tallassee vs. Elmore County game was stopped in the third quarter last week and postponed after threats were made on social media. The Montgomery Catholic at Eufaula game was moved from Thursday to 1 p.m. Saturday for similar reasons.
It all comes in the wake of this week’s news that a gunman killed four people at a high school in Georgia.
Both Oakman and Carbon Hill are 1-1. The game is a 3A, Region 5 contest between Walker County rivals.
