Cricket Ireland said it is giving “full support” to 18-year-old bowler Aimee Maguire after the left-arm spinner was reported for a suspect bowling action in Friday’s one-day international defeat by India in Rajkot.
Maguire took three wickets in the opening game of the three-match series, but the match officials’ report citing concerns about her action was handed over to the Ireland team management after the contest.
Her action will now be tested at an International Cricket Council-accredited testing centre over the next 14 days, although she will be permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the test results are known.
Ireland face India again on Sunday before the concluding match in the series on Wednesday.
“The staff and players are rallying around Aimee, reassuring her that she will return with a stronger action and will continue to shine on the international stage for many years to come,” said Cricket Ireland’s director of high performance Graeme West.
“The experience and expertise that we possess within our high performance coaching and support services at Cricket Ireland, will provide Aimee with the care, support and guidance to deliver the remedial programme which will begin following the team’s return from India.”
The teenager made her international debut in 2023 and has 20 caps for Ireland taking 25 wickets across formats.
India clinched a six-wicket victory in Friday’s game.
