The Adrian College football team hasn’t started the season 3-0 since 2014 while Siena Heights has started 0-4 in program history.
One will look to keep going while the other will look to stop a skid this weekend.
Adrian College at Franklin College, 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs hit the road for the first time under head coach Joe Palka and do so with a 2-0 mark in non-league play with a 55-20 win against Elmhurst and 38-20 against Madonna.
A couple of newcomers have spearheaded Adrian’s quick turnaround from 1-9 to 2-0 with quarterback Jake Kelbert and running back Shondel Hardnett.
Division II Northwood graduate transfer Kelbert has completed 35-of-54 passes for 366 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while also rushing for 149 yards and two more scores. Concordia Ann Abor junior transfer Hardnett has rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns.
Junior Lawrence Tech transfer wide receiver Jalen Wallace has made a quick impact as well with 13 receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown while true freshman Caid Fox has 10 receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Temperance Bedford freshman Trey Brueggemann leads the team with 11 tackles, five for loss, and a sack while Siena Heights sophomore transfer Ryan Morgan has 10 tackles, an interception and fumble recover and Lawrence Tech junior transfer Mike White has 10 tackles, forced fumble, sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.
This will be Adrian’s toughest challenge, although the Grizzlies are 0-2 with losses to Ohio Northern, 45-7, and Hope, 48-6.
Franklin has struggled through the air with only 170 yards passing in two games while rushing for 208.
Siena Heights at St. Francis (Ind.), 1 p.m.
The Saints have been home all season with three-straight games at O’Laughlin Stadium, but SHU is winless and has lost four-straight dating back to last season.
The Saints lost the opener to Taylor, 34-28, and last week to Olivet Nazarene in overtime, 20-14, with a loss to No. 7 Marian (Ind.) in between, 31-9, in a game with seven turnovers.
Elijah Taylor has had his moments leading the offense under center with 627 yards passing and four touchdowns to two interceptions with a completion percentage of 49.5.
Redshirt freshman Brendan Haisenleder is leading from the backfield with 253 yards rushing while a pair of junior receivers Credell Prather and Bailey Jackson, lead with 13 and 10 receptions respectively and 209 and 155 yards.
St. Francis is 1-1 with a loss to Indiana Wesleyan, 52-14, and win against Defiance College, 64-36.
Wayne State graduate transfer Joshua Kulka is under center for St. Francis, completing 66.7% of his passes for 414 yards, five touchdowns and one interception.
Alongside him is senior running back David Smith with 148 yards on 23 carries and Judson graduate transfer O’Vauntay Vickers has 14 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns.
