Here’s our latest roundup of Coachella Valley nonprofits that are seeking volunteers (as of July 2024).
ACT for Multiple Sclerosis will hold its third annual golf tournament on Presidents Day, Feb. 17, at Palm Valley Country Club in Palm Desert.
Events will include a shotgun scramble, which will tee off at noon, a continental breakfast, social hour, a buffet dinner with live entertainment by John Stanley King Band, a silent auction and an awards presentation.
Registration is $275 per person or $1,000 for a foursome. The tournament is limited to 144 players. Dinner for non-golfers is $125. Sponsorships and tee signs are available.
Doors will open at 10 a.m.
Event sponsors include Fiesta Ford, Billy Q’s, Casuelas Café, Hot Purple Energy, Icon Golf Cars, Rivco Mechanical Services and Zach’s Personal Fitness.
Act for MS was established in 1999 by local journalist Gloria Greer when her daughter Norma was diagnosed with the incurable auto-immune neurological disease. Additional founding board members were Peggy Cravens, Jackie Lee Houston, Lori Sarner, Norma Greer and Diane Marlin Dirkx. Current programs include the Lynn DeSantis Strength Training Program named in honor of client Lynn DeSantis, who died from complications of multiple sclerosis.
ACT for MS is the premier resource for individuals in the Coachella Valley who have been diagnosed with the condition.
Qualified residents receive quality of life support services at low or no cost, based on income.
All funds raised stay in the Coachella Valley to support local businesses.
The nonprofit’s programs are designed to help clients live stronger and longer and include strength training, exercise and cardiovascular programs as well as therapeutic and flexible massage, adaptive yoga, educational seminars, workshops and support activities to offset isolation.
