NEW DELHI: Comical overthrows in cricket often involve moments of miscommunication, bad luck, or sheer clumsiness, leading to unintended hilarity.
In amateur cricket, overthrows are far more frequent. A classic scenario involves multiple players throwing the ball to each other in a desperate attempt to hit the stumps, only for the batters to keep running while the ball sails past every fielder repeatedly.
A video of a similar incident, shared by European Cricket, is viral on social media.
It shows a team needing 3 runs off 2 balls and the batter goes for a big shot, but misses and runs. The keeper tries to run him out with a kick but misses, the batters go for the second, the throw comes from the leg side at the non-striker’s end, but the fielder, who has come upto the stumps, fails to collect the ball and the batters keep running.
Then the third throw comes at the keeper’s end but the bounce takes it over the keeper’s head and runs to the fine leg boundary.
The out of breath batters share a victorious hug as the umpire signals it a boundary.
Comical overthrows are a reminder of the human side of cricket, bringing laughter to both players and spectators.
