The first of two Rockingham County Circuit court trials for Anthony Eugene Robinson is scheduled for September 23.
Robinson dubbed the “Shopping Cart Killer” is accused of killing two women and moving their remains by shopping cart.
In all Robinson faces 6 felony charges including two counts of first-degree murder.
A pre-trial motion hearing held on September 3 confirmed that Robinson will face two different trails according to a Rocktown Now report and additional sources.
A second Rockingham County trial is set for January 27.
Robinson is accused of being involved in the murder of Harrisonburg resident, Beth Redmon and Tonita Smith of Charlottesville.
Both women’s remains were discovered in an underdeveloped lot in Harrisonburg.
Video evidence shows both women allegedly met with Robinson back in November of 2021.
Robinson has been link by DNA evidence to two additional murders in Washington DC and Fairfax County.
The remains of all the victims were transported in a similar fashion by shopping cart.
The causes of death have been inconclusive in all cases.
Robinson’s defense lawyer Louis Nagy requested that the Redmon and Smith trails be combined due to similar circumstances.
That request was denied by Judge Bruce Albertson at the pre-trial due to the delays it would cause.
It was also declared that the phrase “Shopping Cart Killer” and or “Serial Killer” could not be used during trial at the pre-trial.
Those phrases were not to be used due to the negative connotations that could taint the jury.
