The 2025 college football recruiting class is about to wrap up with next week’s National Signing Day, though most players already made things official during December’s Early Signing Period. It’s time to turn the page to 2026 and take a look at the best quarterbacks in the class.
If you haven’t been paying attention, plenty of quarterbacks announced their college football destinations but if the 2025 cycle is any indication, there will be plenty of movement from now till the Early Signing Period. Six of the top seven 2025 quarterbacks did not sign with the school they originally committed to.
Below is an early look at the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2026 class with more than half of them already committed. Three of these QBs have already decommitted from their original college announcement.
Rankings come from the 247Sports Composite.
The top-rated quarterback in the class has been committed to Tennessee since August and attended a number of Volunteer games this fall. If all goes well this fall, Faizon Brandon (NC) will join a QB room that just signed four-star George MacIntyre to the 2025 class.
The son of former NBA player Raja Bell committed to Texas in June as the Longhorns continue to stockpile talent at the game’s most important position. With Quinn Ewers out of the picture, Arch Manning will get his shot to be the full-time starter this fall, and head coach Steve Sarkisian has to be thrilled in landing a top-five QB with Dia Bell (FL).
Oklahoma is coming off its second six-win season in three years under head coach Brent Venables, though he picked up a significant recruiting victory last summer when Jaden O’Neal (CA) announced his commitment. The Sooners lost Kevin Sperry to Florida State late in the 2025 recruiting cycle, so they needed to strike on a blue-chip quarterback in 2026.
You could argue no team is better set up for the future with Oregon with loads of cash and head coach Dan Lanning putting together three impressive seasons and went into the 2024 College football Playoff undefeated. Jonas Williams (IL) announced he’ll be a future Duck in August, following a class that signed Akili Smith Jr. (CA).
Jake Fette (TX) committed early in one of the most surprising seasons in all of college football last fall. He chose Arizona State at a time when the Sun Devils were coming off a 3-9 season in Year 1 of the Kenny Dillingham era. A few months later, they were competing in the College Football Playoff. Arizona State has a strong chance to stay at the top of a competitive Big 12 especially if it can land blue-chip prospects like Fette.
Helaman Casuga (UT) chose Texas A&M in October and will follow a recruiting class that flipped Brady Hart (FL), who had been committed to Michigan and reclassified from the 2026 class. Marcel Reed will begin his first year as the full-time starter, but the Aggies are in good position at the future of the position.
Jared Curtis (TN) committed to Georgia last March before reopening his recruitment last fall, though the Bulldogs are not out of the picture. He released a top six earlier this month that included Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State, South Carolina and Auburn.
Ryder Lyons (CA) is the only available 2026 quarterbacks inside the top 10 who has not decommitted from a school. He’s taking his time in a decision without clear favorites for the five-star prospect. Lyons has plenty of suitors, and USC could have an advantage because that’s where Lyons’ brother Walker is currently playing as a tight end.
Brady Smigiel (CA) had been committed to Florida State at this time last week but announced a change of plans over the weekend. He had been committed to the Seminoles for seven months before opening things back up. Smigiel received a visit from Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly the day before decommitting if that’s any indication of his future plans, though the Buckeyes are not the only program going after him.
Landon Duckworth (AL) became the first quarterback commitment in the 2026 class when he announced he’d play at South Carolina back in August 2023. A little less than a year later, reopened his recruitment and has been uncommitted since June. Duckworth landed offers from Florida State, Kentucky and North Carolina over the past week.
