It’s a big weekend in Chapel Hill to say the least.
While the UNC football program plays its home opener on Saturday afternoon, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are set to host two big-time recruiting targets this weekend.
The first to arrive was Derek Dixon, a four-star combo guard from Washington, D.C. Dixon is regarded by 247Sports Composite as the No. 58 overall ranked player in the Class of 2025. With the Tar Heels missing out on five-star Jasper Johnson, the emphasis on Dixon has been very heavy, with the coaching staff making an in-state visit to see him this week.
The other is four-star forward Nik Khamenia from Studio City, California. Currently, Khamenia is viewed as a top-30 prospect within his graduating class, as he’s been quite the high riser over the last few months. It’s no secret that the UNC basketball program has been aiming to add players who fit the “stretch four” mold, Khamenia is a player who certainly can fit that mold, but the Tar Heels have steep competition to land a commitment from him.
With the fall recruiting period underway, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program’s coaching staff will be very busy over the next few weeks. A handful of the Tar Heels’ top recruiting targets, mostly from the Class of 2025, will go to campus to see what Chapel Hill is all about.
The hope is that these official visits will lure some of the top talents to North Carolina. Davis and his staff currently don’t have any commitments from the Class of 2025, but the hope is that will change in the near future.
