It has rained engagements during the tennis offseason. Ahead of their 2025 campaigns, several players, including Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime, got down on one knee to profess their love to their longtime girlfriends.
A couple of tennis players also announced their engagements during the season. Former World No. 4 Caroline Garcia and her partner Borja Duran, who hosts the Tennis Insider Club podcast alongside her, decided to take the next step in their relationship in June. Meanwhile, Diego Schwartzman, who is expected to retire in February 2025, confirmed his engagement with his longtime girlfriend, Eugenia De Martino, the same month.
During the ongoing off-season, there have been a staggering five proposals, with six players getting engaged. Here’s a look at the couples who are gearing up to tie the knot:
# Alex de Minaur and fellow tennis player Katie Boulter
Australian tennis player Alex de Minaur and British No. 1 Katie Boulter are the latest players to announce the special news. The tennis power couple kept their engagement a “secret” for a week before they confirmed the unceasing rumors on December 23.
According to their social media update, de Minaur and Boulter got engaged in Alicante, Spain. The stunning visuals showed a picturesque backdrop of the sea and the sunset.
“We’ve been keeping a small secret…” they wrote on Instagram.
Earlier this year, Alex de Minaur surprisingly revealed that his now-fiancée had initially rejected him when he asked her out on a date.
“The first time I asked her out, she straight up said no. I asked her out for a coffee date, and she replied with no… That was tough to take, but being the persistent person that I am, I asked again and she said maybe. So we went with that, and here we are,” he told Tennis Channel in March.
The tennis players made their relationship public in 2020 and have been inseparable ever since. They have often credited each other for their on-court success. Interestingly, the couple won their two singles titles simultaneously this season. Their successful 2024 campaigns also saw them reach their career-best rankings (de Minaur, No. 6, and Boulter, No. 23).
# Felix Auger-Aliassime
Felix Auger-Aliassime, too, opted for a romantic proposal by the shore for his lady love, Nina Ghaibi. The pair were all smiles as they posed by the bonfire in all white during a November sunset.
“Couldn’t have dreamt of a better forever,” Auger-Aliassime wrote on Instagram.
Auger-Aliassime seemingly came in contact with Nina Ghaibi through Australian tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic, who happens to be her cousin. He and Ghaibi, an equestrian hailing from Croatia, have been together since March 2019. In 2023, the couple adopted a dog called “Timmy” together. Ghaibi also assists Felix Auger-Aliassime in his philanthropic work in Togo, his father’s native country.
# Casper Ruud
Just days before Felix Auger-Aliassime made his engagement official, Casper Ruud, too, proposed to his girlfriend, Maria Galligani. The couple flaunted coordinated pink and white outfits in a lovely photoshoot by the beach.
“Can’t wait to marry you,” Casper Ruud wrote on Instagram.
Ruud and Galligani made their relationship public in 2018. The former World No. 2 often enjoys his partner’s support from the stands during his matches. They also attend various red carpet events together.
Galligani, who also hails from Norway, is a psychologist with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the field.
# Alexei Popyrin
A popular setting among tennis players this off-season, Australian tennis player Alexei Popyrin, too, popped the question to his partner, Amy Pederick, by the seashore. The couple opted for Mauritius as their off-season getaway.
Going by the candid pictures shared on social media, Pederick was pleasantly surprised as Popyrin got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
“Forever with you,” the tennis player wrote on social media.
Alexei Popyrin and Pederick, who reportedly started dating in 2019, have known each other since childhood. As per the World No. 24’s revelation, the two crossed paths as eight-year-olds in Dubai. Pederick is a London-based physiotherapist who was born to English parents in Zimbabwe.
Popyrin, who famously won his maiden Masters 1000 title in Canada and beat Novak Djokovic in the third round of the US Open this year, has frequently received words of encouragement from his partner.
“Proud doesn’t even come close. You’re so incredible and beyond deserving! Enjoy every second my love Alexei Popyrin,” she wrote after the Canadian Open.
# Marton Fucsovics
Unlike his colleagues’ beachside proposals, Marton Fucsovics journeyed to Paris with his partner, Hungarian model Nini Molnar, to pop the question in mid-December. The pair celebrated the occasion with champagne and a kiss by the Eiffel Tower, and Molnar delightedly flaunted her stunning diamond ring.
“Yours forever,” she wrote on Instagram.
The Hungarian tennis player, who has a career-high ranking of World No. 31, was previously engaged to longtime partner, social media influencer Anett Boszormenyi. He made his new relationship with Nini Molnar public in January.
