San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams has been named as the third member of the 99 Club in Madden NFL 25, joining teammate Christian McCaffrey and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Williams is just the fourth 49ers player all time and the only lineman in team history to earn a 99 overall rating.

The 11-time Pro Bowler has made the Associated Press NFL All-Pro first team each of the past three seasons. In 2023, Williams earned Pro Football Focus’ second-highest rating (92.5) among offensive tackles and didn’t let up a sack en route to helping San Francisco earn an NFC title.

Williams also played a key role in fortifying an offensive line that helped McCaffrey have a sensational year. The star running back and reigning AP Offensive Player of the Year finished with 2,023 total yards and 21 touchdowns for the NFL’s No. 3 scoring offense.

Right now, Williams is currently sitting out of training camp in hopes of landing a better contract.

Obviously, it will behoove the 49ers to make Williams happy. He missed two games last year against the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals with a right ankle sprain, and the 49ers lost both, scoring a well below-average 17 points per game (San Francisco averaged 28.9 PPG on the year).

But when Williams is on the field, there’s no doubt that the 36-year-old is still the game’s top left tackle, even as he enters his 15th NFL season. So he’s a well-deserved 99 Club member in Madden NFL 25, which will be released on Friday, Aug. 16.
