A Baxter County man has been arrested after allegedly failing to pay for items during a four-minute shopping spree. Thirty-eight-year-old Timothy Vernon Franklin is facing a theft charge for the incident.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Mountain Home Police Department received a report of shoplifting from Lowes. The store’s senior asset protection manager provided evidence to the responding officer showing the suspect entering the store through the lumber entrance, taking a shopping cart to the tool department, and grabbing several large tool sets.
Franklin then walked past the cashier and exited the building without paying. Surveillance footage showed him loading the stolen merchandise into a silver quad-cab pickup truck before leaving the property. He was inside the store for only three to four minutes.
Using facial recognition technology, the manager extracted an image of Franklin and provided it to investigators. His driver’s license photo was compared to the footage and determined to be a match based on facial features, height, and weight.
Franklin is currently being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on one felony count of theft of property. He is also being held for other agencies. His bond is set at $10,420.
