The Patriots have a bunch of promising pieces at wide receiver, but they could use an explosive playmaker.
They have not had a 1,000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman in 2019. Historically, they have struggled to get consistency out of the position. However, that could change in 2025 with a true No. 1 option in Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins becoming available in free agency. There are also draft options with an impressive playmaker such as Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan on the board.
That isn’t to suggest there’s nothing to work with in New England. Kayshon Boutte broke out with 43 catches for 589 yards and three touchdowns, while Demario Douglas hung 66 catches for 621 yards and three touchdowns on the stat sheet.
A true No. 1 wideout added to the mix could be a major difference-maker.
