Let’s run through another 2025 NFL Mock Draft.
Since last week we’ve had some shifting in the draft order, with the Patriots now slotted to go first overall, what route will they go with so many needs?
Plus the Bears need offensive line help, will that come in the first round or will it wait until the second? And without a surefire top quarterback selected like Caleb Williams was in 2024, who will go off the board first?
New team on the clock, same player going off the board. New England drafted its QB last year and they need help just about everywhere else. Adding an absolute weapon like Travis Hunter to use at receiver, corner, or however the heck they want seems like a total no-brainer.
I don’t think Cincy will end up picking second overall, but if they do I think right now Mason Graham would fit in perfectly. The Bengals need a ton of help defensively, and they need to get bigger and meaner up the middle. Graham can accomplish all of that for them.
As far as quarterbacks in this draft go, I still think Quinn Ewers might be the first once taken. But right now, he’s hurt and Shedeur is playing fantastic football for the Buffs. He’s got an outstanding skillset, he’s got professional coaches on the Colorado staff to help develop him. If he’s not the first QB taken, he’ll be one of them, and Cleveland absolutely needs a change at the position.
Similar to the Bengals, I don’t think the Rams end up at fourth overall in April. Will Johnson would be a great fit for the Rams as they need some help in the secondary. LA has done a nice job rebuilding the defense from the inside out, and now it’s time to address the CB need.
The Jaguars have a few spots they could go here, but with Will Johnson and Travis Hunter both off the board Will Campbell is the pick for them. Campbell is the best tackle in the draft. He’s great in pass protection. The Jags have done a nice job building up their skill group on offense, now they need to protect their massive investment in Trevor Lawrence.
Pearce is projected as a mid-round pick right now depending on where you look, but I think he might have the highest ceiling of the EDGE rushers in this draft. Carolina could always go the QB route again, but I think the Panthers might have to go with the best player available unless they truly fall in love with a QB.
As quickly as the Will Levis era began in Tennessee, it will likely come to an end this offseason. Ewers should be healthy shortly, just in time for SEC play. He can make every throw, he’s playing for a coach who’s been in the NFL. And he’ll have all the chances in the world to showcase his ability during the rest of Texas’ SEC schedule.
The Dolphins need help on defense. They could certainly fall in love with a new quarterback, but Tua Tagovailoa doesn’t seem like he’s stepping away any time soon and Miami has a lot of money committed to him. For now, I think drafting their favorite defender on the board is the move, and drafting Georgia defensive players usually isn’t a bad idea.
If Aaron Rodgers is still around next year, then I think you have to take a weapon to help the team right now. McMillan does that from day one. He’s the best wideout in this draft and is the total package. If he’s on the board when the Jets pick, he’d be a slam dunk to pair with Garrett Wilson.
Arizona has started piecing together a decent offense, but the Cardinals going to need help in the trenches defensively. Kenneth Grant is a big body who can probably play either interior DL position and help out that defense from day one.
I feel pretty confident that Sanders and Ewers will be the top two QBs drafted, but after that, it’s going to get a little unpredictable. Jalen Milroe, Cam Ward, and Carson Beck all will likely make arguments to be the next signal caller selected. If the Raiders are picking here, I think Ward or Beck would fit what Raiders OC Luke Getsy would like in his offense, but it’s truly like throwing a dart at the wall right now.
The Saints have had a nice start to the 2024 season, and offensively they look like a significantly improved unit. Defensively, while they’ve been solid, Head Coach Dennis Allen I’m sure would love to add some more help in getting to the quarterback.
Morrison has been one of the top corners in college football over the past 2+ seasons, and the Colts need help in their secondary. Keeping Morrison in the state of Indiana would seem like quite the logical fit for both sides.
There’s still a lot of season left, but the Niners’ offense looks limited without Christian McCaffrey. Taking a running back in the top half of the first round is a risk, but it’s one that the 49ers can afford with how skilled their roster is. Jeanty is as explosive of a back as we’ve seen in a while and is putting up record-setting numbers in college. If McCaffrey and his ankles will never be back to 100 percent, this might be a hard player to pass up for SF.
If you told me last year that Jalen Milroe would be a first-round pick I’d have never believed you. Last season, he was an electric runner who could hit some throws but that was about it. Then Alabama Head Coach Kalen DeBoer got his hands on him, which could be the best possible outcome for his career. The Giants need a new QB, and I think they’ll do their best to address it early.
Philly really needs some help along the defensive line, and Nic Scourton can provide that from day one. He’s big, fast, physical, and explosive. Just the total package out on the edge and would immediately help out Jalen Carter up front.
I’m not so sure Banks will still be around when the Bears are picking if they’re around the middle of the first round, but if he is I think Ryan Poles would run to the podium to draft him. Banks is the total package at the tackle position, and he’d be a great start in building up an offensive line to protect Caleb Williams.
The Packers will have a few needs to address this offseason. Getting to the quarterback will likely be something they want to improve on, and while Perkins comes with an injury risk he’s at his peak not only the best EDGE in this draft but he might be one of the best overall players. Coming back from a torn ACL is never a guarantee, but the Packers are a team that can take the risk on the ridiculously high ceiling Perkins possesses.
Jim Harbaugh gets reunited with his tight end from Michigan. Harbaugh loves to build from the inside out. Last year he addressed the trenches, now he goes trench-adjacent adding a tight end for Justin Herbert to target. Harbaugh’s best offenses always heavily feature the tight end, and Loveland is one he knows well.
Seattle needs help defensively as we’ve seen so far this year, and the best way to improve a defense is by getting to the quarterback more. Sawyer is having a great year for Ohio State and would be a solid fit on the Seahawks’ defense.
There are a few different directions the Steelers can go in the first round, but I think a reset at quarterback makes sense. Russell Wilson is who he is and Justin Fields is coming back down to earth a bit (and looks like he might not be worth a big contract). It’s time Pittsburgh goes the drafting route at QB and why not take one who’s won a whole lot at the college level in Carson Beck?
Burden isn’t the biggest target, but he’s explosive and a big play waiting to happen. The Broncos defense is exceeding expectations and has been spectacular thus far in 2024. Now they need to start adding weapons around Bo Nix.
The Cowboys could use some help in the trenches, but that’s not as much fun for Jerry Jones! Dallas needs to get younger and cheaper at wide receiver, and Bond is a big play waiting to happen. Alongside CeeDee Lamb that could be one of the most explosive duos in the NFL.
Tampa has a need at the cornerback position, and that’s the route I’d expect the Bucs to go in the first round. Burke has been a mainstay on the Buckeyes’ defense for multiple seasons now, and he would be a great fit to help Tampa’s secondary on day one.
Drafting Keon Coleman was a nice start last year in buffing up the receiver room, but it still needs some help. Egbuka has been the model of consistency at Ohio State and is the total package at receiver. He would be a great compliment to Coleman in Buffalo and give Josh Allen a young WR group that will be together for a while.
The Ravens probably need to upgrade at tackle, especially with Ronnie Stanley set to hit free agency this year. And given Stanley’s injury issues, I’m not sure Baltimore will want to re-sign him. Taking their top tackle on the board seems like a very Ravens-type move.
Help trenches on defense is a need for the Falcons. Deone Walker is a massive human being who would provide an immediate upgrade to the middle of Atlanta’s defensive line. These two seem like a perfect match if Walker is still on the board.
Walker is as physical and hard-nosed as they come, and he can play in a few different spots throughout the front seven. Detroit needs to add some help up front to toughen up their defense, and Walker seems like he fits the Dan Campbell profile.
The Commanders are playing some GREAT football right now. I’m not totally sure they’ll end up picking this far back, but picking in the 20s seems very realistic at this point. Washington needs help across the board defensively and Starks would be the best player on the board here. He’d be a home run pick for them here.
The Texans have a pair of outstanding edge rushers as we saw when they played the Bears, but they could stand to upgrade the interior of their defensive line. T.J. Sanders can help them do that. He led South Carolina in TFLs last season and has been an anchor for them defensively this year.
Savaiinaea can play multiple positions along the offensive line, and that’s probably the one spot where the Chiefs really could use some help. They tried addressing it with Kingsley Suamataia who was their second-round pick last year, but he’s had a rough start to 2024. Options and depth on the OL are never bad things to have, so I think that’s the route KC goes.
Stephon Gilmore has worked out fine as a short-term addition at corner for the Vikings, but at 34 years old he is most certainly not the long-term answer for Minnesota there. Davis gets them younger in the secondary and helps them add to a defense that’s playing some outstanding football.
