EAST RUTHERFORD – The Giants lost their eighth consecutive game on Sunday afternoon and remain winless at home this season after a chance to force overtime in their 14-11 defeat to the New Orleans Saints was denied when Graham Gano’s 35-yard field goal was blocked as time expired.
Now for the good news: the Giants’ chances at securing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft are better than the product the franchise is putting out on the field right now.
The Giants (2-11) now own the No. 2 pick in the draft, according to Tankathon.com, which projects the order based on standings and strength of schedule. That’s one spot higher for the Giants than they had entering the day’s action thanks to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ upset victory over the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.
Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders also have a 2-11 record and they have the strength of schedule edge over the Giants, so Antonio Pierce and the Silver and Black are currently No. 1.
If the Giants lose their final four games, they’re guaranteed to clinch no worse than the No. 2 pick in the draft next April since the Jaguars and Raiders will play each other in two weeks.
It’s believed the Giants and Raiders will be in the hunt for a quarterback with Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward currently viewed as the top two in the Class of 2025. Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father and head coach at Colorado, was videoed joking with Pierce at a function over the weekend that the Raiders needed to draft his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, a safety at Colorado.
The Giants have already done extensive homework on Shedeur Sanders, with general manager Joe Schoen and his top personnel aides spending time on campus in Boulder at a recent Buffaloes’ practice. Not only is Shedeur a top pick potentially, but cornerback/wide receiver and Heisman Trophy favorite Travis Hunter could be the best prospect in the draft.
Schoen has also scouted Ward in person this season. The pre-draft evaluation process will kick into high gear after the college and NFL regular seasons.
Before any offseason moves are made, the Giants right now have seven total picks in next April’s draft.
Here’s the list of all seven selections the G-Men currently have in the 2025 NFL Draft:
