The New York Giants currently hold the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft following their 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 2-9 Giants are one of three remaining 2-win teams in the NFL, along with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Las Vegas Raiders. They moved up in the draft order this week, climbing from fourth overall to second overall. The boost in draft pick is thanks to both their loss to the Bucs as well as losses by the Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders to weaken the Giants’ strength of schedule.
The Giants are obviously in need of a quarterback of the future after benching then releasing Daniel Jones. Which direction they will (or should) go to fill that need is up for debate, but the draft remains an option.
If they opt to draft a passer at the top of the draft, they could face stiff competition for “Their Guy”.
In addition to the 2-win Jaguars and Raiders, there are currently five teams with three wins on the season. Of them, the Patriots are the only ones who are unlikely to draft a quarterback — though Bryce Young has played well for the Panthers since his time on the bench. If either of them winds up in front of the Giants, they could auction their pick off to the highest bidder. That would either force the Giants to trade up themselves or watch as “The Guy” is drafted by another team for the second time in two years.
The Giants will play the 4-7 Dallas Cowboys (11th overall) this Thursday on Thanksgiving, followed by the Saints on December 8th. The Giants also have games against the 6-5 Atlanta Falcons and 5-7 Indianapolis Colts (13th overall) this year. While it’s impossible to favor the Giants to win any games this year, those are their best chances to notch another in the win column.
For now, we’ll keep tracking the Giants’ draft status as well as the draft stock of the top draft-eligible quarterbacks. This off-season is going to be incredibly consequential for the future of the franchise, and there are a lot of moving parts.
