NBA replacing All-Star Game with team tournament

The 74th annual NBA All-Star Weekend is just over a week away and will take place in the San Francisco Bay Area, starting Feb. 14. This year, the format of the NBA All-Star Game will change to a tournament-style competition.
This marks a significant return to the Bay Area, as the All-Star weekend has not been held here since 2000, when it took place at The Arena in Oakland. Over three exciting nights, the Chase Center will host a series of unmissable events.
The NBA All-Star roster has been announced, featuring the biggest names in the game. LeBron James, a starter for the Western Conference, will be making a record 21st conseutive All-Star appearance. He will be joined by other notable players such as Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry. This star-studded lineup promises an electrifying competition.
In the Eastern Conference, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will be joined by fellow starters Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Cleveland Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell, and New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns.

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game will feature a tournament-style format with four teams: Team Chuck, Team Shaq and Team Kenny, plus Team Candace, which will be formed by the winner of the Rising Stars event.
The four teams will compete in two semifinal games, with the winners advancing to the championship.
The main event will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m. ET, and it will be broadcast on TNT.
