On tap for this week is the final major of the year, the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon, and we’re eyeing a former Masters champion as our long shot to win. Here’s our long-shot pick, the Open Championship odds, betting favorites and everything else you need to know.
This week marks players’ final shot at major glory in 2024, and we’re picking Adam Scott as our long shot at +6,600 odds-to-win.
It’s been over 10 years since Scott earned his green jacket win in 2013, and at 43, he’s at the end of his career. But this season, he has shown signs that a big win could be in the offing.
He has seven top-25 finishes so far in 2024, but he’s saved his best for the end of the season. Scott narrowly missed a win last week, stopped only by heroics from Robert MacIntyre, but still earned a runner-up.
If you put $10 on Scott to win and he does, you’ll earn $660. For insurance, consider placing additional small bets on Scott to finish top 10 and top 20.
Looking for more long-shot bets for the Open Championship? This week’s honorable mentions are Sahith Theegala (+5,000) and Jordan Spieth (+6,600).
Heading into the last major of the year, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is again the betting favorite with +500 odds-to-win.
But World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who lost the U.S. Open in devastating fashion, isn’t far behind in the pre-tournament odds, coming in at +800.
Ludvig Aberg (+1200) comes in third, with the other two 2024 major winners, Bryson DeChambeau and Xander Schauffele, both starting the week with +1,400 odds-to-win.
