For the 2024 MVP Open, temperatures will stay consistent, with highs ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s throughout the tournament. Thursday carries the highest chance of rain, but Friday should also be watched for potential wrap-around showers from a low-pressure system moving through the Northeast. Winds are expected to remain light, below 10 mph each day. A strong hurricane is forecasted to make landfall on Friday, so its track will be closely monitored in case adjustments to the event are necessary.

Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:
1️⃣ FPO Points Race Comes Down to the Wire
The battle for the DGPT FPO Points title is as tight as it’s ever been. Holyn Handley maintains her lead heading into the final regular season event, but Ohn Scoggins, Missy Gannon, and Kristin Tattar are all within 50.75 points of each other. Any of the top four players could win the FPO Points title depending on their finish at MVP, setting up an intense showdown on one of the most challenging courses on the tour. Handley, with her 10 podium finishes this season, is trying to hold off fierce competition from Tattar, Scoggins, and Gannon, each of whom has been in peak form.
2️⃣ Kristin Tattar’s MVP Drought
Kristin Tattar is returning to a familiar storyline at Maple Hill. Despite winning numerous events over the last few seasons, MVP Open remains elusive. Tattar has finished runner-up three times (2023, 2022, 2019), making it the only Elite or Major event she’s played at least three times and never won. Tattar’s form has been stellar this season, capturing six wins in 13 starts and racking up 10 podium finishes. A victory at Maple Hill would fill a notable gap in her résumé and add another chapter to her dominant 2024 season.
3️⃣ Hailey King Defends Her Title
Last year’s MVP Open champion, Hailey King, enters this year’s tournament with consistent performances under her belt, having notched five top 10s and two runner-up finishes in her last five starts. With one MVP win already and a perfect record of top 5 finishes at the event in her four career starts, King is one of the favorites to defend her title. Her ability to thrive under pressure on the demanding Maple Hill layout will be put to the test against a stacked field.
Note: at DGPT Playoff events, feature cards are determined by World Points Standings. The first feature card is the top 4 players in the standings. The second feature card is players 5-8 in the standings.
Here’s a look at the top storylines headed into this weekend:
1️⃣ Gannon Buhr’s Dominance: A Historic Season in the Making
Gannon Buhr has been the standout player of the 2024 season, and heading into the MVP Open, he has all but locked up the DGPT Points title. Buhr needs only 1.5 points, effectively just finishing the event, to claim the crown. His seven Elite Series and Major wins this season rank him third in all-time MPO single-season victories, a feat matched only by disc golf legends like Paul McBeth. At just 19, Buhr is rewriting the record books and could further cement his legacy with a strong showing at Maple Hill, where he finished 11th in 2023 and 3rd in 2022.
2️⃣ Ricky Wysocki’s Chase for the Podium Record
Ricky Wysocki has been the model of consistency in 2024, notching 11 Major and Elite Series podium finishes so far—just one shy of tying the all-time record for a single season. With back-to-back runner-up finishes at the DGLO and GMC behind Buhr, Wysocki heads into the MVP Open looking to not only tie but surpass the podium record. Maple Hill is a course where he has thrived in the past, boasting two victories and 13 straight top-10 finishes. Wysocki has the experience and form to deliver another podium—or even a victory—at this storied event.
3️⃣ Matt Orum: Can He Repeat as MVP Open Champion?
Matt Orum shocked the disc golf world last year by winning his first career Elite Series event at the MVP Open, emerging victorious from the chase card. In fact, the MVP Open has a history of chase card champions, with Simon Lizotte doing it the year prior in 2022. Orum has shown flashes of brilliance this season, but all eyes will be on him to see if he can pull off the rare feat of defending his title at Maple Hill. With 8 starts at this event and 4 top-10 finishes, he’s no stranger to the pressures of the course, but repeating as champion will require overcoming a stacked field.
