A 2.5 percent stallion share in Grade 1 winner and record-holder
Cogburn will be auctioned at the inaugural Keeneland championship sale Oct. 30
in the paddock at Del Mar, site of the Breeders’ Cup.
A 5-year-old son of Not This Time, Cogburn has won all three
of his races this year, including a North America-record in the Jaipur (G1) at
Saratoga, the Ainsworth Turf Sprint (G2) at Kentucky Downs and the Turf Sprint (G2)
at Churchill Downs.
Cogburn is targeting a start in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 2 at Del Mar. He will be retired at the end of the year to
WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky., for the 2025 breeding season.
The share being offered in the championship sale is an
original share in the horse and does not need to clear the syndicate. The
new shareholder will be entitled to one-fortieth of all the stallion income and
associated expenses starting with the 2025 breeding season.
The share in Cogburn will be consigned to the sale by ELiTE,
agent.
“We are super excited to be standing the fastest horse in
the world,” WinStar Farm president Elliott Walden said. “We have had a lot of
interest for shares, and not many will be available, so we thought it best to
give everyone a shot at it through Keeneland’s unique sale at the Breeders’
Cup.”
“Keeneland thanks Clark Brewster, Bill and Corinne
Heiligbrodt, WinStar Farm and Lindy Farm for the opportunity to offer this
share in Cogburn, one of the most talented horses racing today,” Keeneland vice
president of sales Tony Lacy said. “This championship sale offering is made
even more exciting, because it is the only share in Cogburn available for trade
prior to his retirement.”
