QUINCY (WGEM) – For 19 years, the Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament in Hannibal has taken over Huckleberry Park and did so again on Saturday.
The event is held as a fundraiser where all of the proceeds will be donated to the Buddy Pack program, which feeds over 400 Hannibal children per week.
The program provides juice, soup, cereal, and other simple foods every Friday to students so they can take home the food in their backpacks.
The tournament does offer prizes, but organizers said that’s not what the participants care about.
“Everybody coming here is not really coming for anything but to help with the cause and have fun. You’re playing in the wintertime. Like I said, we got a beautiful day today, but we’ve had days where it’s really really cold, days where we’ve had a lot of snow, and it’s just a good time for a great cause,” said John Shaw, Director at Excitement Golf.
In addition to fundraising money, participants were encouraged to bring canned goods to the tournament as well.
