The United States women’s national team picked up a comfortable victory in their opening game of the SheBelieves Cup against Colombia Thursday evening.
Scorers: Macario 33′, Sentnor 60′
The U.S. were dominant on the ball throughout the opening 30 minutes, but they struggled to make anything of the high possession numbers.
The deadlock was finally broken past the half-hour mark when Catarina Macario got on the end of a cross from the byline to lash the ball home to give the hosts the lead.
Macario has now been involved in a stunning nine goals in her last six starts for the USWNT.
The Stars and Stripes extended their lead after the break thanks to Utah Royals forward Ally Sentnor, who found the back of the net on her first start for the national team with an emphatic shot from distance.
The two goals would be all Emma Hayes’ side would need to comfortably see out the remaining half-hour and turn their attention to a matchday two showdown with Australia.
