MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team wrapped up competition at its fall trip in Tennessee over the weekend, taking eighth overall at the Rhodes College Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational.
Mississippi College led the field with a two round 579 (+3). The Gusties posted a 322-320-642. Individually, three athletes tied for first, as Mississippi’s Tina Honnef, Ogelthorpe’s Elizabeth Powell, and Huntingdon’s Mary Davis all shot a two-under 142.
Riley Zebroski (So., Watertown, S.D.) continued to be the highlight of the trip for the Gusties, as she finished tied for tenth in the talented field. Zebroski totaled a 77 in round one, followed by a 73 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 150, a career-best for the sophomore. Round two saw four birdies from Zebroski to help her climb 10 spots on the leaderboard.
“Today was a fun day to play golf,” Zebroski said. “The weather was perfect and playing with Lauren [Hubbart] was very fun. I was very happy to shoot my new best collegiate score of 73 and 36 hole record of 150!”
Fellow sophomore Maren Masters (So., Shakopee) finished 36th behind Zebroski, carding a pair of birdies of her own on day two for a two round 161. Lauren Hubbart (Jr., Hastings) moved up 15 spots on Tuesday, posting a 165 for the weekend for 42nd, followed by first-year Kenna Henriksen (Olivia) who took 45th with an 82-84-166. Emily Kolb (Jr., Sioux Falls) carded a 185, while Jenna Piepkorn (Jr., Plymouth) posted a 179 for 59th as an individual.
“The Gusties bested the 19-stroke season record they set yesterday by two strokes, highlighted by Riley Zebroski shooting a one-over-par 73 and Lauren Hubbart carding a seven-over-par 79, both tournament play records for them,” said Assistant Coach Sarah Wolter ’02 following the tournament. “Each member of the team was dialed in again today, managing big greens with some challenging day two pins. Our team score was a solid all-around effort by every member of the squad as they settle in to the middle of the season. It was another great day to be a Gustie!”
The Gusties are back for a quick turnaround this weekend, hosting the annual Gustie D3 Classic at Emerald Greens in Hastings. The team will compete in a mostly-MIAC field, hosting athletes from Bethel, St. Catherine, Concordia, Macalester, St. Scholastica, St. Olaf, Carleton, Saint Benedict, as well as Wartburg and UW-Eau Claire.
