Data from the CDC shows that over the last 20 years rates of anxiety and depression increased among children ages six to 17.
The CDC says depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses can affect a child’s development.
Experts say it’s important to look out for signs such as mood changes, lack of interest in activities, and having a hard time paying attention.
Experts also recommend children be screened for anxiety starting at age eight and depression at age 12.
A 2022 study reveals children who play team sports are 10% less likely to experience anxiety and depression.
