Xpeng has appointed Pioneer Motors as its exclusive distributor in Qatar, where the G6, G9, and P7 are expected to be launched by the end of 2024.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has inked a dealer agreement to enter the Qatari market as the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker continues to expand its international presence.
Xpeng has signed an agreement naming Pioneer Motors, a subsidiary of Qatar’s Almana Group, as the exclusive distributor in Qatar.
The agreement was signed on September 10 at Xpeng’s Guangzhou headquarters, although it was not previously reported in the media.
The Xpeng G6 and G9 SUV (sport utility vehicle) models, as well as the P7sedan, are expected to be available in the Qatari market by the end of 2024, according to a statement.
Following Xpeng’s entry into the European, Middle Eastern, Asia-Pacific, and African markets, the agreement marks an important milestone in Xpeng’s accelerated global expansion strategy, the EV maker said.
“Entering the Qatar market is a strategic move for XPENG. It not only strengthens our presence in the Middle East but also complements our mission to provide smart, eco-friendly transportation solutions on a global scale,” Alex Tang, general manager of international markets at Xpeng, said.
Xpeng’s entry into Qatar will transform the local automotive industry by offering state-of-the-art EVs equipped with advanced AI technology, the company said.
Xpeng has increased its focus on overseas markets this year, as competition in the domestic market grows red hot.
In an internal letter dated February 18 — the first working day after China’s 2024 Lunar New Year holiday — He Xiaopeng, Xpeng’s chairman and CEO, said 2024 would be the first year of V 2.0 for Xpeng’s internationalization efforts.
So far this year, Xpeng has expanded its presence to international markets including Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Australia, France, Egypt, and Singapore.
