West Virginia University found themselves in a bit of a conundrum when running backs coach Chad Scott left for the same job at the University of Texas right before the start of spring football practice. Now, the Mountaineers seem to have a replacement, with Larry Porter taking the job, according to John Brice of FootballScoop.
Porter most recently was the running backs coach and special teams coordinator at the University of North Carolina. He had been in Chapel Hill since 2021, which was his second stint with the Tarheels, having previously held the same job from 2014 to 2016.
Over a quarter century, Porter has coached the running backs position at LSU, Texas, Auburn, Arizona State, Oklahoma State and more. He played the position as well, doing so for the Memphis Tigers from 1990 to 1993, totaling over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns during his career.
