Andreeva, Badosa on the rise

Young Russian Mirra Andreeva makes her top-20 debut this Monday, with the 17-year-old rising three places to a career-high of No 19 in the world off the back of her quarter-final run in Beijing.

Just ahead of her is former world No 2 Paula Badosa, who was a beaten semi-finalist at the China Open and has leapt four places to No 15 in the world as a result. She now sits just 446 points out of the top 10, which she last featured in two years ago.

Two other players on the move this Monday are Maria Sakkari and Luidmila Samsonova. Both are headed in the wrong direction, however, falling out of the world’s top 20 with Sakkari dropping to No 22 and Samsonova to No 23. Sakkari was in the top 10 just a fortnight ago, and now finds herself fighting to be seeded at the Australian Open.

Former No 4 Caroline Garcia also drops, falling another eight places to No 44 in the world, while Ons Jabeur also slides seven places to No 28 in the WTA rankings.

Naomi Osaka gets a boost from her strong showing in Beijing, however, jumping 15 places to No 58 in the world – just 61 points shy of the top 50.
