Top-seeded at the 2024 WTA Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey is Danielle Collins, who has already picked up two WTA Tour titles this year (including a WTA 500 in Charleston). The American is coming back after a short injury break and will take on Erika Andreeva. Can she keep that incredible last season on tour momentum going? Who do you think will prevail?
Head-to-head: First meeting
The breakout season of Yue Yuan has slowed down considerably, but it’s still great to see the Chinese finally playing at the level at which she belongs. That’s not really the case for Aleksandra Krunic anymore with the Serbian falling outside the Top 300. Her craftiness can still be an issue for many players and maybe particularly for someone as aggressive as Yuan. But in the faster conditions in Monterrey, it’s tough not to trust the favorite here.
Prediction: Yuan in 3
Head-to-head: 1-1
These two will not only get to play the all-Mexican clash on Center Court, but will also be reviving a rivalry we haven’t seen since 2014! Renata Zarazua has taken a leap that Veronica Rodriguez has been dreaming of in the last year or so and will be in the US Open main draw via direct acceptance. She should be able to beat her compatriot here as well, especially as she’s coming off a big run at the stacked ITF event in Cary (lost to Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the final).
Prediction: Zarazua in 2

Head-to-head: Collins 1-0
Danielle Collins had to miss Toronto and Cincinnati with an injury, but is back on the court just before the US Open in Monterrey. The American is enjoying the best season of her career in her last year on tour. The match she won over Erika Andreeva in Indian Wells a few months ago was far from her best performance of the campaign, but she got the job done. As long as she’s back healthy, she should be a threat to win the title here.
Prediction: Collins in 2
