Ahead of his 2025 debut on Pegasus World Cup day, Grade 1
winner Formidable Man fired a bullet onto the work tab Saturday morning for
trainer Michael McCarthy.
The 4-year-old colt by City of Light who won last year’s
Hollywood Derby (G1) was clocked going a half-mile in 46.6 seconds on the fast
main track at Santa Anita. It was the fastest of 55 workouts over the course and
distance Saturday.
McCarthy said he and owners William and Suzanne Warren would
accept the invitation that will put Formidable Man into the $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) on Jan. 25 at Gulfstream Park.
There were 36 graded-stakes winners on the U.S. work tab
Saturday.
Formidable Man (City of Light), a Grade 1 winner
(2024 Hollywood Derby), worked four furlongs in 46.6 seconds at Santa Anita on
Saturday morning. It was the fastest of 55 works at the distance. His previous
work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start
he won the Hollywood Derby (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Del Mar on
Nov. 30 for trainer Michael McCarthy.
Get Her Number (Dialed In), a Grade 1 winner (2020 American
Pharoah), worked three furlongs in 36.6 seconds at San Luis Rey. It was the
sixth fastest of nine works at the distance. His previous work was seven days
ago going three furlongs at San Luis Rey. In his last start he placed 10th in
the Mint Millions (G3) going one mile on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 2
for trainer Peter Miller.
Rattle N Roll (Connect), a Grade 1 winner (2021 Breeders’
Futurity), worked five furlongs in 1:02.2 at Fair Grounds. It was the 22nd
fastest of 44 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going
four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he won the Clark (G2) going 1

There Goes Harvard (Will Take Charge), a Grade 1 winner (2022
Hollywood Gold Cup), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Santa Anita. It
was the 27th fastest of 55 works at the distance. This was his first work since
his last race. In his last start he placed 10th in the Breeders’ Cup Turf going
1 1/2 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 2 for trainer Michael McCarthy.
Brooklyn Strong (Wicked Strong), a Grade 2 winner (2020 Remsen),
