We are excited to announce a renewed partnership with the fine folks and handicappers at 1/ST BET. Jeremy Plonk and Jeff Siegel will be sharing their expertise Wednesday-Sunday on a weekly basis to pass along some ponies that they like for races at various tracks around the country, including Woodbine.
For this Saturday, September 14 article, we’ve got “Plonk’s Picks” for racing, featuring the Woodbine Mile.
Woodbine | Race 7 | 4:33 pm ET
#6 Cinderella’s Dream is a 3-year-old filly taking on older rivals, including defending Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes champion Fev Rover, but she’s done nothing wrong since arriving in North America and has won 6 of 7 races lifetime. Trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick team up again in search of a third straight win after scores in the Belmont Oaks and Saratoga Oaks in which she displayed a strong turn of foot/acceleration. She’s won at 1-3/16 miles, so the extra 1/16th of a mile should pose no problem. Win bet.
Woodbine | Race 10 | 6:16 pm ET
The $1 million Woodbine Mile doesn’t boast a dominating performer and that opens the door to possible upsetter #1 Playmea Tune. The 12-1 morning line proposition needs to be every bit of that price for fair value while racing on turf for the first time after 3 synthetic-surface sprints. But he’s been brilliant and is a projection play on potential. Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez rides for respected Woodbine trainer Jose Carroll and I expect this horse to be on or near the lead after battling Canada’s best sprinter, Patches O’Houlihan, to a photo finish last time. Win-place bet. Exactas with likely favorites Naval Power and Filo Di Arianna.
