Finish: 7th Place – FULL RESULTS
Location: Normanside Country Club in Delmar, N.Y.
Short Story: The University at Albany women’s golf team successfully hosted the program’s first ever tournament, the UAlbany Great Danes Invitational. The team used a solid second round to jump up the standings, finishing in 7th place overall. Lucia Esteban led the group, shooting just 11 over par through two rounds for an 8th place individual finish.
Head Coach Colleen Cashman: “What a weekend! What can I say. Hosting a 12-team tournament is usually a very huge undertaking, but somehow this entire event from start to finish went off without a hitch. From the unbelievable golf course conditions at Normanside, to the staff that worked their tails off. To our 25 volunteers that showed up over two days, to all the teams coming from across the Northeast.
And what an exciting finish. One shot separating the team champions and a tie for first place individually. It’s unbelievable. Unfortunately, our team got off to a rough start in round one with all the nerves kicking. But it was nice to see them come out today firing on all cylinders and finishing our first 9nine holes at +8 today. We just couldn’t string 18 holes today. But they are a super young team with a lot of talent, so hopefully we only learn and grow from this weekend! I’m very proud of Lucia for her solid top ten finish and leading this squad.
Lastly, I’d really like to thank the weather Gods. This is our fourth event of the season, and we have played in nothing but rain and chilly conditions. This weekend the sun absolutely made for a perfect setting here in upstate New York to showcase this amazing event! Looking forward to continuing this tradition and making it an annual event!”
