VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s golf team sits tied for 11th place after carding a 17-over 297 in Friday’s first round of the Evie Odom Invitational at the Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Va.
 
Senior Sara Sarrion led the Chanticleers in first round action, firing a two-over 72 (37-35) to finish the round tied for 17th. Sarrion finished the round tied for fifth in par three scoring with a 3.00 scoring average, while her 14 total pars in the round tied for third.
 
Aoife Devaney (37-38), Ella Murray (37-38), and Varatkarn Kunkaew (36-39) each finished tied for 43rd after carding a five-over 75, while Carolina Hortian (39-39) finished the round tied for 64th at eight-over 78.
 
The par-70, 5,824-yard course played extremely hard in Friday’s opening round as none of the 14 participating teams was able to break par and only 22 shots separate all 14 teams.
 
The College of Charleston and Sacramento State lead the event after each team shot a 2-over 282. Notre Dame is just four shots back in third with a six-over 286, while Furman is fourth at eight-over 288, and Penn State is fifth with a 10-over 290.
 
Old Dominion is sixth at 11-over 291, followed by Western Kentucky in seventh at 12-over 292 and Chattanooga eighth at 13-over 293. Princeton is ninth with a 15-over 295 and North Florida is 10th with a 16-over 296.
 
Miami is tied with the Chants at 17-over 297, followed by Richmond in 13th at 23-over 303 and James Madison is 14th with a 24-over 304.
