ALTOONA, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s golf team wrapped up competition at the UW-Eau Claire Georgianni Invite Sunday, finishing second in the all WIAC field. UW-La Crosse took first with a two round total of 681, while the Gusties posted a 342-341-683.
The Gusties were led by Riley Zebroski (So., Watertown, S.D.), who carded a birdie in round two for an eight-over 79. Zebroski finished third with a two round total of 88-79-167. The sophomore jumped up nine spots from day one and was just three shots out of first.
Lauren Hubbart (Jr., Hastings), who led the Gusties through round one, finished one shot behind Zebroski with a two round 82-86-169 for fourth. Jenna Piepkorn (Jr., Plymouth) took 16th with a two round total of 179, while Emily Kolb (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) wasn’t far behind, taking 17th with an 88-92-180.
Kenna Henriksen (Fy., Olivia) rounded out the Gustie top-five in 24th with a 104-84-188, while Mary Kate Hewitt (So., Edina) finished in 27th with a 211 on the weekend. Henriksen added one of the Gusties’ two birdies on Saturday at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club.
“We faced two challenging courses this weekend with significant elevation and tough greens,” said Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey. “Our score was just one better today, but I saw a lot of good shots. We were tight and a bit unsettled yesterday, and that was not the case today.
“It was fun to see Riley Zebroski shoot a 79 on her birthday. She had a fantastic round. Also, great to see Lauren Hubbart finish fourth for her best finish as a Gustie golfer. Her hard work in and out of season has made significant improvement and we’re proud of her. The girls are excited about their trip to Memphis for a tournament next weekend.”
UW-La Crosse’s Sophie Denure and Jenna Wiebke tied for first with a two round 164 to help the Eagles to victory. UW-La Crosse took first, while the La Crosse “B” team took third. Host Eau Claire finished fourth while UW-Platteville rounded out the field in fifth.
The Gusties will head to the Rhodes College Invitational for their fall trip in Memphis, Tenn. next week. Gustavus will compete with some of the best talent in the nation at the Mirimichi Golf Course from Sunday to Tuesday.
