DELMAR, N.Y. – The Navy women’s golf team wrapped up its third tournament of the fall season on Sunday, tying for fifth at UAlbany’s Great Danes Invitational in Delmar, N.Y.
Playing on the par-70, 5,888-yard Normanside Country Club, the Midshipmen finished tied for fifth with St. John’s in a 12-team field, shooting a 51-over par 611 over two rounds. After posting a team round of 306 in Saturday’s first round to stand fifth, Navy improved over the final 18 holes with a round of 305 to maintain its spot on the leaderboard.
Seton Hall claimed the team title with a 41-over par 601 outing to hold off a Sunday surge from runner-up Boston U. (42-over par 602), while Lehigh at 46-over par 606 and Merrimack at 47-over par 607 rounded out the top four squads. The Pirates’ Marta Aguilar and the Terriers’ Christy Chen finished tied atop the player leaderboard at 5-over par 145.
Senior captain Bridget Hoang and sophomore Keira Howard finished as the top Navy golfers, both tying for 17th place at 14-over par 154, as Hoang shot a 75 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday while Howard recorded rounds of 79 and then 75.
Two more Mids tied for 26th overall, as sophomore Emma Tang (76-79) and freshman Megan Kirkpatrick (83-72) both posted a tournament score of 15-over 155. Kirkpatrick’s second round of 72 marked the lowest individual round of the weekend for Navy.
Closing out the Navy lineup was freshman Vivian Cressman, who registered a 17-over par 157 (76-81) to take 37th place.
