PALM CITY, Fla. — App State Women’s Golf begins the 2025 spring season, its first under head coach Chan Metts, with Sunday’s opening round of the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate hosted by UNCG.
The three-day, 54-hole event is being held on a par-72 layout at Hammock Creek Golf Club in Florida.
Play is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday and Monday, then at 7:30 a.m. for Tuesday’s final round. Each round will have a shotgun start, and live scoring will be available via Clippd.
In addition to UNCG and App State, the 18-team field includes Virginia Tech, Lipscomb, Merrimack, Southern Illinois, Elon, Georgia State, Arkansas State, Little Rock, Towson, Bryant, ETSU, Ohio, Morehead State, Memphis, Jacksonville State and Bucknell.
App State’s five-player lineup will be made up of Salem Lee, Jacquelyn Taylor, Ona Lukes, Layla Meric and Makena Dubois. Mary-Sears Brown will compete as an individual.
Metts took over the program in August 2024, arriving from Charleston Southern, and App State’s second fall tournament under his watch included a fourth-place finish in the 14-team Elon Invitational. That performance was highlighted by all 10 individual rounds being in the 70s and Lukes taking third individually.
Taylor and Meric are both seniors who have played a lot of competitive rounds for the Mountaineers, while Lukes and Dubois are sophomores who had several strong finishes either as true freshmen in 2023-24 or in the 2024 fall. Sears-Brown resumed competition for the Mountaineers in the fall after transferring back to App State following the 2022-23 season, and Lee performed well during preseason qualifying.
The 2024-25 season is presented by Hound Ears Club. Among the seven dates on the spring schedule, the Mountaineers will host the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate in Morganton from March 31 to April 1 and compete in the Sun Belt Championship in Point Clear, Ala., in mid-April.
