ANNAPOLIS, Md. – For the fourth-straight season, the Navy women’s golf team opens its spring campaign at the Sea Best Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla., with the Midshipmen set to begin play Monday morning, Jan. 27 at the San Jose Country Club.
Competing in the two-day, 54-hole tournament, Navy is set to play in a 15-team field that will begin with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts on both Monday and Tuesday. The Jacksonville University-hosted tournament is the first of five regular-season events for the Mids in preparation of the 2025 Patriot League Championship on April 18-20.

The Course
San Jose Country Club will host the Sea Best Intercollegiate for the fourth-straight season … The club’s par-72, 6,084-yard Donald Ross Golf Course underwent renovations in 2020 to restore parts of its original 1925 design … The country club itself has been in operation since 1947.
The Field
The host Dolphins will welcome Navy and Patriot League counterpart Holy Cross to the Sunshine State, starting with Sunday’s practice round. The tournament field also includes Coastal Carolina, Daytona State, Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Southern, Illinois State, Lipscomb, Richmond, Seminole State, South Alabama, Stetson and USC Upstate.

Led by freshman Megan Kirkpatrick finishing as the individual runner-up and earning Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week, Navy ended its fall season by winning the Lehigh Invitational while junior Sue Lee and senior Bridget Hoang represented the Mids at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup … Navy surged ahead after Saturday’s opening round by posting a tournament-low 300 and shot a 314 round on Sunday, finishing with a title-winning weekend total of 38-over par 614, while Kirkpatrick’s 8-over par 152 was just two strokes behind individual medalist Katelynn Waclawski of Fairfield … At the Stephens Cup, Lee posted a 20-over par 230 to tie for 26th in the field while Hoang finished 34th at 42-over par 252.
Sea Best Intercollegiate History
The inaugural Sea Best Intercollegiate in 2022 saw Campbell claim the team title by nearly 20 strokes (33-over par 897) from second-place East Carolina, as No. 47-ranked Emily Hawkins of Campbell took home first-place individual honors at 1-under par 215 … The 2023 edition of the tournament had Campbell repeat as team champions at 26-over par 890, while the Camels’ Isabella Hayne tied USC Upstate’s Praew Nontarux atop the leaderboard at 1-under par 215 … 2024 featured Coastal Carolina winning the team title at 19-over par 883 while Cincinnati’s Paola Rosario claimed individual medalist honors with a 3-under par 213.
Navy at the Sea Best
The Mids ended the 2022 tournament ended in 12th place out of 18 teams, shooting a 103-over par 967, while then-sophomore Stephanie Lee was the top individual performer for the Mids, finishing tied for 44th with a 25-over par 241 … Then-junior Mara Hirtle was the top Navy player at the 2023 tournament, shooting a 14-over par 230 score to finish tied for 37th overall, while the Mids shot a 72-over par 936 to round out a 14-team field … Stephanie Lee then led Navy again in 2024, ending in a tie for 34th at 11-over par 227, while the Mids collectively shot a 49-over par 913 to finish 10th in the 15-team field.
