ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women’s golf team is ranked 36th in Scoreboard’s first national rankings of the season, which were announced today. The Scoreboard rankings will be used to select the qualifiers for the NCAA Golf Championships.
Earlier this fall, the Scots received votes in the Mizuno WGCA Division III Coaches Poll, both in the preseason poll on Sept. 6 and the first regular-season poll on Oct. 5. Macalester finished fourth at the MIAC Championships, held Sept. 28-30 at St. Cloud Country Club. The Scots’ three-round score of 965 tied a school record for lowest score in a 54-hole tournament. Junior Bailey Lengfelder (Renton, Wash./Hazen) finished sixth, and first year Ava Austria (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) tied for 10th, giving Macalester two players in the top 10 for the first time since 2008.
MIAC teams ranked ahead of the Scots include conference-champion St. Catherine (eighth), Carleton (26th) and Bethel (27th).
The Scots completed their fall schedule and will resume play in the spring.
