WHAT TO KNOW
• The Babson women’s golf team returns to action against the top teams in the northeast region over 36 holes at the Williams Invitational beginning on Saturday afternoon.
THE COURSE
• Taconic Golf Club, a 5,826-yard par-71 layout built in 1927, has hosted three USGA Championships and four NCAA Championships in its storied history.
• Taconic also was recently ranked No. 3 on the top campus courses you can play list by Golfweek.
2023 WILLIAMS INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
• Babson shot 342-330 (672) to finish 14th out of 22 teams at last year’s Williams Invitational at Taconic GC.
• Sophomore Laura Lu tied for 23rd position at 15-over 157 after carding rounds of 80-77, while classmate Victoria Salim shot 80-83 to grab a share of 35th position at 21-over 163 for the Beavers.
• Williams posted a 36-hole score of 597 to finish 16 strokes ahead of second-place Pomona-Pitzer, while Wellesley (625), Hamilton (634) and Middlebury (639) rounded out the top five.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
• Babson opened the season with an impressive performance, placing third at the Polar Bear Shootout at Brunswick Golf Club on September 14-15.
• First-year Camila Amaya fired rounds of 76-72 to tie for fifth place at 2-over and classmate Hannah McCarthy shot 78-72 to grab a share of ninth position at 4-over for the Beavers, who posted rounds of 308-298 to with a 36-hole total of 22-over 606.
• First-year Alice Zhu tied for 15th overall with an 6-over total of 152, fellow rookie Jennie Pan shot 77-80 to grab a share of 23rd place at 11-over 157 and junior Sarah Ji carded rounds of 77-82 to secure a share of 27th position at 13-over 159 for the Green and White.
• Salim, who was second on the squad last year with a 81.77 scoring average, tied for 44th with rounds of 81-84 while completing as an individual.
• Babson returns five players from its inaugural season highlighted by Lu, who posted four top-10 finishes and led the team with a 77.15 stroke average last spring.
GOING LOW
• Amaya and McCarthy both matched the low individual score in program history and became the first two players in Babson annals to finish a round under par on the final day of the Polar Bear Shootout on September 15.
• Their matching rounds of 1-under 72 equaled Lu’s 72 on the opening day of the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate on April 5 of last season.
• The Beavers final round score of 298 and their 36-hole total of 606 were also the best in the short history of the program.
LOADED FIELD
• After competing against four nationally-ranked programs to open the season two weeks ago, Babson will tee it up against eight of the top 25 teams in the WGCA poll at Taconic Golf Club.
• The Beavers finished behind only No. 6 Williams and No. 11 Wellesley at the Polar Bear Shootout, while beating No. 22 Middlebury by 15 strokes and No. 11 Amherst by 18 shots.
• No. 17 NYU, No. 21 Hamilton, No. 24 Rhodes and No. 25 Randolph-Macon join the previously mentioned squads in this weekend’s 23-team field.
UP NEXT
• The Beavers will travel to Rome, N.Y., to compete in the Hamilton Invitational next Saturday and Sunday.
