SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women’s golf team kicks off Augustana’s 2024-25 athletic season with a two-day tournament in Blue Springs, Missouri in the Central Region Preview held by Southwestern Oklahoma State. Action tees off on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and concludes on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Augustana returns four Vikings in Shannon McCormick, Masy Mock, Lanie Veenendall and Mattie Weidenbach while adding four in Payton Drefke, Anna Eckmann, Avary Johnson and Hanna Knoop.
McCormick was selected as the Viking to watch ahead of the season. The Sioux Falls native was named a WGCA All-American Scholar and a CSC At-Large Academic All-District last season. Another notable Viking, Veenendall, returns to the course after a strong sophomore season that landed her All-NSIC First Team Honors
Head coach Coralee Jorgenson said “Augustana University is excited to welcome four new student-athletes to our team. They all arrive with outstanding high school careers. We know the freshmen will fill gaps and add to the flavor of the team with their respective personalities. Meshing the four players in with our existing team will be exciting!”
The Vikings were selected to finish first in the NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll with 199 points and nine first-place votes.
Events
The Vikings have traditionally split up the fall and spring seasons with five scheduled tournaments each. Following the season opener, AU travels to Rapid City, South Dakota for the Hardrocker Invitational Sept. 16-17. The fall closes with the Mustand Invite, Grace Shin Invitational and USF Invite.
