MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morgan Kennedy, a three-time all-state honoree from nearby Boyd County High School, has signed to join the women’s golf team at Morehead State.
Kennedy is a six-time KHSAA State qualifier (2019-24), six-time First Team All-Area selection (Eastern Kentucky) and a 2022, 2023, and 2024 KGCA First-Team All-State selection. She also won seven high school invitationals during her illustrious career.
“The team and I are thrilled to add another local talent to our program. Morgan Kennedy is a highly accomplished golfer and an exemplary individual both on and off the course. Her impressive achievements over the years make her a standout not only in Kentucky but within the junior golf community,” said MSU head coach Stephanie Barker. “As a six-time KHSAA State Qualifier and six-time First Team All-Area selection, she has demonstrated both skill and consistency throughout her high school career. Her recognition as the 2024 Kentucky PGA Junior Player of the Year and her success in multiple tournaments, including the Northern Kentucky Junior Championship and the Lou Perry Tour Championship, further solidify her place as one of Kentucky’s top young golfers.”
She intends to major in elementary education. On Nov. 20, Kennedy was selected as the 2024 Kentucky PGA Junior Tour Jace Bugg recipient. This honor is the KY PGA Junior Tour’s most prestigious award recognizing the junior golfer who most represents the qualities of outstanding sportsmanship, a positive attitude, and is a true friend to his or her peers.
“Morgan’s intention to pursue a major in elementary education indicates a passion for inspiring and helping others, which is a natural extension of the leadership qualities she has demonstrated in her junior career,” Barker said. “With her combination of athletic talent, academic ambition, and admirable character, Morgan Kennedy is poised to achieve great things both in her collegiate golf career and beyond.”
She was also named the 2024 KY PGA Junior Player of the Year after winning the Northern Kentucky Junior Championship, as well as the Lou Perry Tour Championship. In five events, Kennedy placed in the top five or better four times.
