RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team is in ninth place after the first day of the Texas State Invitational Monday at Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
UTRGV finished the day with a two-round total of 633 after posting a 317 and then a 316 in the second. The Vaqueros are one stroke ahead of 10th place Lamar and three shots back of Central Michigan for eighth place.
Sophomore Natalia Rodriguez led the Vaqueros as she is tied for 14th with a two-round total of 153 after posting rounds of 75 and 78. Junior Jackie Howard Gonzalez is tied for 22nd after posting an 82 in the first round and a one-over par 73 in the second for a two-round total of 155.
Senior Cristina Galban is currently tied for 41st after recording a two-round total of 161 after shooting 77 in the first and 84 in the second. Meanwhile, sophomore Camila Herrera sits six places back as she tied for 46th with a two-round total of 164 including an 83 in the first round and 81 in the second.
Senior Catherine Flores sits in 63rd, finishing with a two-round total of 176 after carding an 89 in the first round and 87 in the second.
Texas State and Houston Christian hold a two-team lead with two-round scores of 605.
The Vaqueros will wrap up the Texas State Invitational on Tuesday with the final round starting at 8:15 a.m.
