ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team is in fifth after day one of the 2024 MIAC Championships, carding a 330 as a team. The Gusties are nine shots behind Macalester in fourth. St. Catherine leads the field with a 299 (+11) after day one at the St. Cloud Country Club.
Three Gusties are tied for the team’s top spot, as Riley Zebroski (So., Watertown, S.D.), Maren Masters (So., Shakopee), and Kenna Henriksen (Fy., Olivia) are all tied for 20th with an 82 (+10) through round one. Jenna Piepkorn (Jr., Plymouth) is two shots behind her teammates in 26th with an 84, while Lauren Hubbart (Jr., Hastings) is in 33rd with a round one 87. Henriksen and Piepkorn each carded a birdie on Saturday, while Hubbart carded two.
“I saw some really good things today. We definitely did not have the start that we wanted, we were a little more nervous than I was hoping we would be,” said Head Coach Scott Moe ’95. “Once we settled down, we were strong in the back nine. There are definitely some spots where we can make some better decisions, leaving ourselves in a better position on the green. Course was in fantastic condition, and the greens were fast. I am excited for tomorrow for another great day at our championship.”
Carleton and Bethel are chasing St. Catherine, sitting 12 and 16 shots behind the Wildcats, who had two players card three-shot eagles on Saturday. SCU’s Kyra Venne is in first, shooting an even-par 72. Macalester’s Bailey Lengfelder and St. Catherine’s Morgan Anderson are tied for second with a 73. MAC’s Mia Cluff is also tied for 20th with the three Gusties, and the four are 10 shots out of first and just three out of the top 10.
The Gusties tee off at 10:54 tomorrow morning in St. Cloud.
