– The CSUN women’s golf team carded a team round of 302 and is in 11th place to open the Rio Verde Invitational on Friday at Rio Verde Country Club.

At 302, the Matadors head into Saturday’s second round just one shot out of the top 10 and six shots out of the top five. 21 teams are competing in the tournament, with California Baptist holding the team lead at 283. Illinois State (289), Xavier (292), Ball State (293), and Ohio (296) round out the current top five. 

Nicole Tanoue and Ariya Soldwisch are the low CSUN players after 18 holes as each is tied for 36th at 3-over 75. Tanoue, who had three birdies on Friday, was even after four holes before three bogeys dropped her to 3-over through 13 holes. Consecutive birdies at No. 6 and No. 7 moved her to 1-over before finishing 2-over over her final four holes. Soldwisch also had three birdies in round one, with all three coming over her final 10 holes of the day.

CSUN SCORES

• Meghan Paracuelles and Kim Turgut are both one shot back of their teammates at 4-over 76. Paracuelles posted one birdie along with 12 pars to finish the day at 4-over 76, while Turgut also had one birdie and 13 pars.
• Gracie Piar rounded out the CSUN scoring, tying for 94th at 10-over 82. Piar was even-par through four holes before finishing +10 over her final 14 holes of the day.

The Matadors will be paired with Butler, Bowling Green, and Kennesaw State for round two, which gets underway Saturday at 11 a.m.
