HOUSTON – The University of Houston moved into the Top 25 of the Women’s Golf Coaches Association poll with a #24 ranking on Friday afternoon.
This marked the Cougars’ first appearance in the WGCA poll under Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach
Lydia Lasprilla and their first showing since the April 9, 2021 rankings.
Through their first four tournaments, the Cougars have posted four straight Top-Three finishes and captured the team championship at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club on Sept. 21-23.
In its most recent action, Houston finished second at the Jim West Challenge with a score of 21-under 843. Each of the Cougars’ Top-Four finishers posted rounds of par or lower with junior Moa Svedenkiold leading the team at 6-under 210 to tie for 10
th.
Houston’s five-woman lineup drained a combined 10 birdies during the final four holes but fell a stroke sky of tying TCU.
This season, five Cougars have posted season scoring average of 72.00 or lower with freshman
Annika Ishiyama leading with a 71.27 average and nine rounds of par or better in 11 total rounds, including each of the last eight and nine of the last 10.
Junior
Natalie Saint Germain stands second with a 71.30 average and eight rounds of par or lower and tied for fifth with a score of 4-under 136 to lead Houston to the Schooner Fall Classic team championship.
Svedenskiold is a two-time All-Conference performer and holds a 71.36 average in 2024-25 while sophomore
Maelynn Kim owns a 71.55 average and is tied with Saint Germain for second with eight rounds of par or lower. Saldana was the Cougars’ leading player at the season-opening Bettie Lou Evans Invitational and Illini Invitational at Medina and owns a season average 71.73
UP NEXT
With the conclusion of the Jim West Challenge, the Cougars closed their Fall schedule.
Houston now will take its holiday break before opening the spring season at the Collegiate Individual at Guadalajara Country Club in Mexico on Jan. 30-Feb. 2, 2025.
From there, Houston plays host to its own Chevron Collegiate at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas, on Feb. 24-25, 2025.
The spring slate continues as they Cougars tee off at the Riverbend Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, on March 10-11, 2025.
