Greensboro, Ga. – Senior Elizabeth Lohbauer climbed 19 positions on Saturday to lead the Western Carolina women’s golf team to 14th overall after 36 holes at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, hosted by Mercer on the National Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee. Lohbauer has a two-round score of 152, just seven strokes back of the individual leader entering Sunday’s final round.
Paired with golfers from Florida Atlantic and fellow SoCon foe ETSU, the Catamount scoring five hit the course between holes No. 14 through 16 on Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start. Lohbauer is tied with five others after 36 holes, advancing from a 41st-place tie after Friday in to 22nd overall. The Venice, Fla., native had a quieter second 18 holes, countering a trio of bogeys with one birdie to give her four on the weekend as she carved four strokes off her second-round score with a 2-over par 74. Her three bogeys on Saturday came on three holes she parred in the opening round. Conversely, all five holes she bogeyed in the first round were shot at even-par, as were the pair of day-one double bogeys.
WCU’s first-round leader freshman Madison Lehr is a stroke back of her senior teammate at 153 (77-76), improving by a stroke in the second round while slipping into a tie for 28th. Lehr played much of the day at 2-over par with bogeys on the par-3 16th just three holes into her second round and a second on the par-4 first after making the turn. She countered her first double-bogey of the event with her second par of the first two rounds in finishing at 4-over, 76.
Rounding out WCU’s scoring five are junior Sadler Miller, up a pair of spots into a tie for 68th after shooting three strokes better with a 79 on Saturday, followed by freshmen teammates Annalee Caveney and Ella Kozak in a tie for 77th with two-day totals of 166. Kozak opened her second round with her first birdie of the event before battling through a Saturday score of 85, while Caveney collected her second birdie of the weekend in the second round.
No. 26 Florida carries a two-stroke lead over Western Kentucky into Sunday’s final round as the Gators posted a two-day score of 595, just ahead of the Hilltoppers at 597. The remainder of the top five are all within two strokes with East Carolina (605) in third, followed by Boston College (606) and tournament host Mercer (607) with the Bears two strokes clear of the rest of the field.
WKU’s Catie Craig leads the field with a 36-hole score of 145, a stroke ahead of Ella Stalvey from ECU with a three-way tie for third two strokes in arrears.
Sunday’s final round gets under way at 10:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
