ITHACA, N.Y. – Emily Pape scored a game-high 24 points, powering Cornell (2-2) to a 68-51 win over Binghamton (2-2) in a non-conference women’s basketball game on Thursday evening at Newman Arena. The game marked the Bearcats’ second straight road contest.
Pape shot 10-of-16 from the floor and was 3-for-6 from three-point range. She also grabbed seven rebounds and recorded a team-best three steals.
Sophomore guard Leah Middleton scored 14 points, marking the second game in a row that she has led the Bearcats in scoring. Redshirt junior guard Jadyn Weltz netted 13 points.
The Big Red blew the game open early, going on a 12-0 run over the final 6:47 of the first period to take a 19-6 lead. Pape drained a pair of three-point field goals during that stretch.
Binghamton got to within 28-22 on a three-point field goal by Leah Middleton with 25 seconds left before halftime. The Bearcats then clawed to within 36-32 on a three-point field goal by Weltz with 4:45 left in the third period, forcing Cornell to call a timeout.
The Bearcats finally took their first lead of the night on a basket by Middleton with 2:47 left in the third period. The Big Red, however, closed out the period with six unanswered points in the final 1:52 to go up 48-43.
Cornell then iced the game with a 13-0 run over the first 6:27 of the final period to go up 61-43.
Summer Parker-Hall added 15 points for the Big Red.
Junior guard Kaia Goode finished with six points, a game-high five steals and a pair of assists.
Cornell shot 49 percent from the field (28-of-57) and recorded 24 assists. They also ended the game with a 41-19 advantage in rebounding.
Binghamton returns home to face ACC member Pittsburgh on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
