Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is full of personality, leading to a plethora of clips that leave people questioning whether he’s being serious or just having fun.
Edwards’ latest remark quite clearly falls on the side of joking, but fans don’t doubt he could accomplish his claim. As one of the most confident and athletic players in the NBA, the 23-year-old believes there’s a future for him in another sport.
When talking with Minnesota Vikings superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson on ESPN, Edwards said, “Football players can’t go play basketball, no way. I told my buddies, I said, ‘If I win a ring, in the next three to four years, I’m going to play football.'”
Jefferson entered in the middle of the conversation, saying, “You’re not going to football.” Still, Minnesota fans backed their franchise cornerstone.
“I wouldnt even be surprised lmao,” one user wrote.
There’s no denying Edwards has the physical attributes necessary to play in the NFL at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds. However, he lacks the experience likely needed to make the transition.
“If you win a ring for MN, you can do whatever the [expletive] you want Anthony,” another fan commented.
Multiple NFL players, including Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson, moved to the MLB, but an NBA player is yet to join the NFL (with the exception of Bud Grant more than 70 years ago).
“Def could play receiver, not sure if he’s quick enough to be a W1 or W2 though,” a comment read.
Not all were placing so much confidence in Edwards, as the realistic outcome remains a long, thriving career in the NBA.
