Rising tennis star Joao Fonseca isn’t happy with the 2019 Wimbledon gentlemen’s singles final’s outcome that saw Novak Djokovic defeat Roger Federer in a dramatic finish on Centre Court. Fonseca recently voiced his desire to play for Federer, who threw away two championship points in the deciding set to later face a defeat.
The Swiss was in touching distance of a ninth Wimbledon title when he created a 15-40 lead on serve at 7-8 in the fifth set but Djokovic fought back to break and later claim his 16th Grand Slam trophy with a 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 13-12 (3) win.

Fonseca, who is gearing up for the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, sat with the ATP Tour and answered a few questions. In one of his responses, the Brazilian hoped to win the London Major final for Federer by firing an ace on the first match point in 2019.
[Is there any particular match that you remember watching from years gone by on TV, that you wish you could have played?]
“The one in 2019, when Roger had match point against Djokovic at Wimbledon. I wish I would be Roger, so I could make an ace at 40/15. I want to change history,” he said.
In another one of his answers, the teenager revealed he hasn’t met Federer yet and wishes to have dinner with the 20-time Grand Slam champion, alongside his father Christiano Fonseca and late basketball legend Kobe Bryant.
[If you could have dinner with any three people in history, who would they be?]
“I would say Roger,” Fonseca added. “I’ve not met Roger yet, but he’s my idol in tennis. Kobe Bryant: his type of play, it was incredible. Then I would say my dad, because he would help me to ask about the things I want to ask, but which are difficult to express sometimes in English.”
